The US and Israel's four-month joint military campaign against Iran has resulted in thousands of casualties and unpredictable negotiations, with a signed ceasefire failing to halt hostilities. This conflict, enabled by the Trump administration's unprecedented support for Israeli military action, has significantly eroded U.S. leverage and advanced Iran's nuclear capabilities, leading to a "terrible" and unfavorable peace agreement for the U.S. that experts call a major foreign policy debacle.

**A VERITABLE POWDER KEG!** Four months have passed since the joint military campaign, a grim partnership between Uncle Sam and Zion, ignited a fearsome conflagration against the ancient lands of Persia. And what of the much-vaunted negotiations by President Trump's White House to quell this bloody brouhaha? A veritable circus of unpredictability, a diplomatic fandango that keeps the world teetering on the brink!
**DIPLOMATIC FOLLIES AND BROKEN PROMISES!** Just this Monday, the President himself declared that Uncle Sam's envoys would hobnob with Teheran's delegates in the ritzy confines of Qatar on the morrow. Yet, Persia, with a straight face, scoffed, claiming no such confab was on the slate! (Though, whispers confirm low-level palaver did occur on Wednesday, a mere shadow of a true parley!)
This diplomatic tommyrot unfolds even as both nations continue to launch devastating strikes, spitting on the very "Ceasefire Compact" they inked with such fanfare on June 17th. That document, a paper promise meant to bring peace, now lies shredded like so much ticker-tape! And while Washington celebrated a security deal between Zion and Lebanon last week, the Zionists continue their merciless onslaught upon southern Lebanon and those radical elements, Hezbollah, allies of Teheran, who rejected the pact outright, for they were not party to its terms!
**A GRIM TALLY OF THE SLAIN!** The butcher's bill is mounting, a sorrowful accounting in this ghastly conflict. Reliable sources from Teheran's ministries confirm a grim tally: as of June 10th, some **3,500 souls have been extinguished in Persia** since this war began. And from Beirut, the Lebanon health ministry reports on Wednesday that **4,300 more innocent lives** have been snuffed out in their beleaguered nation. It's a sad state of affairs, folks, a truly tragic chapter!
As this reporter penned shortly after that flimsy "Memorandum of Understanding" was signed, this Persian war, a true calamity, shows no sign of winding down. Not by a long shot!

**ORACLE OF DIPLOMACY SPEAKS!**
Our esteemed scribe recently sat down with Mr. Nate Swanson, a keen-eyed observer and Senior Fellow at the non-partisan Atlantic Council. This gentleman, a veritable oracle of foreign affairs, spent nearly two decades in the State Department, most recently as Director for Persia under the Biden administration. His insights, condensed and edited for clarity, are nothing short of a shocker!
"I believe Persia was mighty open to a potential arrangement, stronger than the old Atomic Accord," Swanson confided.
Mr. Swanson minced no words, declaring that the conduct of Benjamin Netanyahu, Zion's Big Cheese, took a wrecking ball to many of Uncle Sam's already shaky relationships across the region. Indeed, it made a full-blown, region-spanning war with Persia far more likely, even before 2026 arrived!
**PERSIA'S PLIGHT: A HAND LOST TO WAR!**
When queried about President Trump's handling of these delicate relations, Swanson painted a stark picture. "The relationship between Uncle Sam and Persia has hardly been 'swell' in my twenty years," he admitted. "But Trump walked into a situation in 2025 where Persia was in a historically bad spot. They'd just had two direct fracases with Zion. Their air defenses? Gone with the wind! Their proxies seemed weaker than a kitten's sneeze. Domestically, they faced dire economic and environmental crises, not to mention massive protests in 2023. They were ripe for a deal!"
"They approached negotiations unsure of Trump's game," Swanson continued. "Even I, on the inside, wasn't sure what the President's men wanted! But before the June 2025 war, Uncle Sam held a mighty strong hand. Persia, I truly believe, was open to an arrangement far more restrictive than the old JCPOA. But after that twelve-day war, the chances for a real deal dwindled faster than a bootlegger's stash, and Uncle Sam's leverage went with it. Persia knew more war was coming, and that became their singular focus!"
**TRUMP'S GAMBIT: A DANGEROUS 'YES'!**
"Would the Biden administration ever have launched strikes like those in June and February?" our scribe pressed.
Swanson's answer was swift and emphatic: "No way, Hoss, those strikes would never have happened!"
He elaborated on the path drawn from the October 7, 2023, events, a "game-changer" for Zion, leading to successful campaigns against Hamas and Hezbollah. But then came direct conflicts between Zion and Persia in October 2024. Biden's priorities, Swanson noted, were crystal clear: protect Zion and our desert allies, and deter any escalation. "We were quite clear we wouldn't back a larger conflagration, even as Zion often pondered such a move throughout 2024."
The critical difference? "The 2025 and 2026 wars wouldn't have reached this level if not for Trump. Netanyahu, 'Mister Iran' himself, has forever been pushing for some form of a Persian war. And the fundamental difference between Trump and any administration before him – Bush, Obama, Biden – was this: the Zionists were always told 'No!' We would not support such a conflict. But Trump said 'YES!' And that, my friend, is the whole kit and caboodle."
**GULF STATES: UNCLE SAM, A LIABILITY?**
What of Uncle Sam's ties with the desert Sheikhdoms? "We had a pretty strong rapport with the Arabian potentates," Swanson noted. Before October 7th, there was a movement to normalize relations between Zion and the Gulf, a long-standing goal advanced by Trump's 'Abraham Accords.' But this progress, achieved without a true solution to the Palestinian question, went "out the window" on October 7th, especially from the Saudi perspective, as Bibi prioritized his military conquest in Gaza.
Swanson painted a sobering picture of shifting alliances. The withdrawal of Uncle Sam from the old Atomic Accord in 2018 marked a significant turning point. Persia responded by attacking the Gulf, a chilling harbinger of today's conflict. "Uncle Sam pulled out, applied maximum pressure, and Persia struck oil tankers and Saudi energy infrastructure. It was the 2026 playbook, but on a smaller scale!"
For the first time, the Gulf states began to seek de-escalation with Persia. "There was a dawning recognition that we wouldn't be there for them in the way they hoped," Swanson explained. This relationship, he said, has been slowly evolving, but "put on turbo burners during this war, where Uncle Sam's relationship with the Gulf became a liability. If a Gulf state hosted a real U.S. base, it didn't protect; it merely encouraged attacks!"
**THE ATOMIC MENACE: NO TURNING BACK THE CLOCK!**
Recent reports hint at a partial return to the old Atomic Accord's ways, with talk of renewed nuclear inspections. But Swanson is grim. "In the best-case scenario, perhaps a partial return, but ultimately, no. I don't believe we'll get that bigger 'Phase Two' deal the MOU outlines. Uncle Sam doesn't seem interested in complicated deals, and I'm not sure Persia is willing to cut a big deal with Trump – just and uniquely him."
"You simply can't recapture what we did in 2015 with the JCPOA," he insisted. "That accord merely stalled Persia's nuclear program. But you can't turn back time. Even if Persia agreed to all of Trump's demands – no enrichment, scrap all stockpiles – the time it would take them to break out for a weapon is now about half what it was under the JCPOA!" Why? "Persia has learned so much, developing vastly more efficient centrifuges, six times stronger, installed three times faster! And those demands won't be met, so we are in a significantly worse position."
**BOTCHED CHANCES AND CLOAK-AND-DAGGER!**
What of the Biden years, after Uncle Sam ditched the Atomic Accord? "My opinion is a deal was achievable, but mistakes were made on both sides, more so Persia's," Swanson revealed. Persia expected Biden to jump back into the Accord post-haste. But Washington was slow. By early April, a comprehensive return was on the table. "But it was too late for Persia. Their negotiators wanted a deal, but elections were coming, and their Supreme Leader didn't want the outgoing administration to get the credit!"
The new Persian team took months to get their act together, eventually wanting the same deal. "A deal was possible, but Persia thought the longer they held out, the more we'd give them. So they stalled, pushing for more, more, more!" Then came the Russia war (with Persia backing Moscow), followed by massive protests. "By late 2022, a return to the Accord wasn't politically viable, and in the midst of it all, significant advances were made in their nuclear program. The deal was less valuable than it was in 2015, even less than early 2021." They wanted to say "yes," Swanson lamented, "but they never could."
**ECONOMIC STRANGLEHOLD AND BOOTLEG OIL!**
Trump's withdrawal from the Atomic Accord brought back devastating economic sanctions, including relisting vital sectors as "terrorism." But the biggest shift was oil. Obama's caps on Persian oil exports were globally agreed upon. "Trump's approach was 'no one buys Persian oil!'" Swanson explained. "The net effect? Everyone went down to zero eventually, save for China. The Celestial Empire ended up buying Persia's exports and has ever since, becoming a beneficiary of the system, essentially keeping Persia alive by ignoring Uncle Sam's sanctions!"
Before the Accord, Persia pumped a million barrels a day. During the Accord, over two million. Under Trump's "maximum pressure," it plummeted to a mere couple hundred thousand. "It's crept up since then, now at 1.7 million barrels a day – all illegal, all to China, and at a discount!" But the new 2026 deal allows Persia to sell all its oil again, without repercussions, for the first time since the Accord. "They'll now be able to recruit new purchasers – Japan, South Korea, India will be the biggest!"
**THE GHOST OF '53 AND DEEP MISTRUST!**
Swanson acknowledged the lasting impact of the 1953 CIA-backed coup in shaping Persia's deep-seated anti-Americanism. "It's very much in Persia's political ideology. The 1979 Islamic Revolution was founded on anti-imperial, anti-U.S. ideas born of 1953. They view Uncle Sam as backing Iraq in the Iran-Iraq war. It's one living, continuous piece of history that hasn't ended."
"There is no trust on either side," he declared. "The difference now versus the old Atomic Accord days is at least there was a desire to work through mistrust for mutual benefit. I'm not sure that environment exists at all anymore. Persia won't even sit directly with Uncle Sam! It has to be through an intermediary like Qatar or Pakistan, passing messages like secret agents!"
And the mistrust is mutual. "When I started at the State Department in 2007," Swanson recalled, "the door across from me had an American flag sticker with 'save our hostages' from the hostage crisis. Victims of Persian violence still exist. The level of mistrust and animosity is at an all-time high coming out of this war!"
**SHADOWY FIGURES AND A HYDRA-HEADED MONSTER!**
The bombing campaigns have taken a heavy toll on Persian officials. Who, then, is truly negotiating? "The foreign ministry chaps are still alive," Swanson noted, referring to the foreign minister and longtime lead negotiator. But the real question, "who's making decisions? I don't know." Before the Supreme Leader's death, it was clear. Now, with the Supreme Leader's son's fate shrouded in mystery, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) plays a bigger role, and a new lead negotiator, the Speaker of Parliament, has emerged. "It's clearly five, six – probably more – people making decisions collaboratively. Much more complicated than the old Accord! You need seven people to agree to get to 'yes'!"
"That's why this MOU is in Persia's favor," Swanson concluded, "because they couldn't say yes to anything less. It reflects the President's correct desire to extricate us from this debacle, which is only getting worse. But the terms? They're terrible! A grim indictment of the war itself!"
